A sudden power outage in the washroom can disrupt your daily routine and cause frustration. Often, the problem is simple and can be fixed without calling an electrician. One common cause is a tripped GFCI outlet in the washroom. Knowing how to reset this outlet and perform a few other basic electrical fixes can save you time and money.

First, confirm it’s a GFCI outlet. GFCIs have two buttons—“TEST” and “RESET.” Some also have indicator LEDs: green means operational, red indicates a trip.
Unplug all devices – Remove anything plugged in.
Press “TEST” – This should cause the outlet to trip, and the LED might turn red. In certain models, the buttons are black.

Press “RESET” – Push until you hear a click; if there is an LED, it should turn green. In certain models, the buttons are red.

Test the outlet – Plug in a device to confirm power.
If there’s still no power:
5. Check nearby GFCIs – Reset other GFCI outlets on the circuit.
6. The issue might be with your breaker panel. You’ll need to check the panel and breakers—refer to the linked post for detailed instructions.
By following these steps, you can often restore power without needing an electrician!
If you are unable to resolve the issue yourself, you can schedule an appointment here or contact a certified electrician for assistance.
